Tip of the Spear: The Cutting Edge of AI in the Technology Sector | Yale University, USA 2026

In this Yale University conference on “Designing Your Career in an AI-Shaped World,” Nus Farooq joined a panel of colleagues from across the tech industry (OpenAI, Google, Medidata Solutions, and Aurora) for a session titled “Tip of the Spear: The Cutting Edge of AI in the Technology Sector.” Being “AI-ready” is no longer about mastering a single tool. It’s about learning how to think, collaborate, and adapt in systems where humans and machines are deeply intertwined. 

Pursuing a PhD | Columbia University , USA 2025

In this Columbia University panel, the panelists (including Nus Farooq) discussed what it means to pursue a PhD, the questions one faces while deciding to pursue one. The panelists included Columbia Professors Tamar Mitts, Fernando Cirelli, Kristy Kelly and three of us SIPA alumni Gabriel Gonzalez Sutil, Filip J. Scherf, and me. 

Generative AI: A Game Changer for Maritime Security | UNOCT and Kingdom of Morocco 2025

Nus Farooq delivered a high-level presentation at the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UN-OCT) "Conference on Counter-Terrorism and Maritime Security Along Africa's Atlantic Coast" at Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Morocco. The UNOCT and the Kingdom of Morocco, are the initiators of the African Atlantic States Process (AASP). They jointly organized a two-day conference aimed at addressing emerging terrorism threats and enhancing maritime security along Africa's Atlantic coast. Read here.

Artificial Intelligence and Critical Infrastructure Security: Challenges and Opportunities | UN-OCT, Spain 2025

Nus Farooq spoke at the UN Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT) Expert Briefing on AI and Critical Infrastructure Security, funded by Qatar. As AI reshapes security, governments and enterprises must adapt. Generative AI fuels cyber threats, while Agentic AI introduces automation risks, requiring proactive defense. Public-private partnerships are key to protecting critical infrastructure. This event  was a part of the UN Global Programe on Countering Terrorist Threats, led by UNOCT, CTED, UNICRI, UNAOC, and INTERPOL. Tweeted here.

AI and Education for Skill Development and Career Readiness | College Guide Africa, Nigeria 2025

Nus Farooq spoke at this youth focused event that aims to equip African youth, educators, and policymakers with insights on how AI is reshaping education and the job market. Studies show that Africa's youth population is expected to double by 2050, making it a global center for workforce potential. With AI poised to disrupt traditional industries and create new ones, preparing young Africans for this future is both a challenge and an opportunity. Read here.

Workshop on AI and Information Integrity | Atlantic Dialogues Morocco 2024

Nus Farooq presented a workshop titled "Artificial Intelligence and Information Integrity: Challenges and Policy Solutions" at the Atlantic Dialogues 2024 in Rabat, Morocco. The session engaged 40 emerging leaders from 30+ countries, focusing on the role of AI in disinformation, influence operations, and their impact on democratic processes. Participants explored policy solutions to address challenges in the evolving digital information ecosystem. Read here.
